Hey Otis. Thanks so much for your comments. Sorry it took me awhile to read them and get back to you. I remember Tobes mentioning you and how into it you were. Thanks for sharing your memories from October 1998. We were all so fortunate to make it to that special place. You probably know my bro Kevin James from Dallas who did audio and video of that run. Hope you’re doing well. I love Bend! I just went there for the first time back in August and wanted to move there right away.

Thanks for sharing this blog-post Tyler! Tobes enthusiasm about Chester’s Place was contagious and when we both lived in Eugene, upon his recommendation in 1998, I flew to Tulsa on a whim and grabbed a Greyhound Bus to Fayetteville to attend the KVHW (10-2,3,4-1998) shows at Chester’s…on a solo adventure! Chester’s was SO intimate! I was lucky enough to witness the Saturday afternoon rehearsal on 10/3 (Sat.) with only a few folks in the venue…the band walked into Chester’s that afternoon very nonchalant, not saying a word to each other, picked-up their instruments and began playing (or, I should say ‘birthed’) an instrumental song that is now known as “Point Of No Return”! Later that evening I was on the back-patio of Chester’s when Ray White approached me to say, “…remember that song we ‘birthed’ this afternoon at rehearsal, well here’s the lyrics…,” he proceeded to recite them to me, then the band walked inside and started the concert that night with the first public performance of “Point Of No Return”. It was a profoundly cosmic experience, and part of the reason that song holds a special place in my heart. Another fun part of that Chester’s run in 1998 was that on 10/4 (Sun.) there was a Tornado Warning issued in the local area, so the atmosphere was charged-up with abundant lightning in the area, then at midnight 10/5 was Kimock’s 43rd birthday…ah, man, those were some fun shows and a great era for Kimock/Vega synergy! Thanks to Tobes for being the catalyst to motivate me to attend those KVHW Chester’s shows!!!…love you Tobes, thanks again…and don’t forget about the “VEGI-CHEESE”!!!

Man it used to be sooo much fun to build those taping and tape trading connections. Lots of work & investment, but lots of fun and payout as well. While it’s nice to get the instant gratification of clicking a button the next day to get the show, nothing compares to the craziness and funky deeds that went down searching for you’re show. Thanks for the memories, Blue. VIVA CHESTERS!!!!

I am always amazed whenever I read articles about Leonard Cruess. My father, Sylvester Farrell (1899-1975), was his first cousin. His mother, Mary Farrell Cruess (1867-1939), was my great aunt. I wish Len good health as he continues to achieve a most remarkable longevity.
